This summer we trialled being open over weekends. Last year we called upon the services of the Community Issues Class (Cycle 2) at Motueka High School to conduct a survey about the museum and get local people’s perspective on the museum. One of the main things people wanted was to be able to visit the museum over weekends. So we took note and opened on the weekends.
Saturdays and Sundays over the summer saw a total of 242 people walk through the doors, of which 169 (70%) were visitors and 73 (30%) were local. Sunday proved to be the more popular day.
As a result of the trial we are going to be open on Sundays as from 7th April. However, to be able to continue being open we need volunteers to man the front desk, so how would you like to join our group of volunteers? The hours are low; pay is a cup of tea or coffee and biscuits and the pleasure of meeting new people. We also have two social get-togethers a year, June and just before Christmas.
