Colossal Squid - Ngu Tipua

29 April - 19 July 2026

One of the ocean’s most mysterious giants is coming to Motueka.

Te Papa’s popular exhibition Colossal Squid Ngā Tipua opens at the Motueka District Museum on April 29 and runs through to July 2026.

The colossal squid is so rare that only eight adult specimens have ever been scientifically recorded. This exhibition gives visitors a rare chance to get up close to real specimens, interactive displays, and stunning footage from the deep Southern Ocean.

It’s a unique experience for families, school groups, and anyone curious about life beneath the waves.
